I finally feel like I’ve nailed down a wash day routine that actually works for my natural hair. For the longest time, my hair felt dry no matter what I did, but consistency really changed things. Now I start with a pre-poo using a mix of oils and sometimes conditioner, and I let that sit for about 30 minutes before washing.
After that, I go in with a sulfate-free shampoo and really focus on my scalp. I used to skip shampoo a lot because I thought it dried my hair out, but I realized buildup was actually making things worse. Once my scalp is clean, I follow up with a deep conditioner and detangle while it’s in.
Detangling during conditioning has been a game changer. My hair is softer, and I lose way less hair in the process. I usually section my hair and take my time so I’m not rushing through knots.
Once I rinse everything out, I apply a leave-in conditioner and seal with oil. Since sticking to this routine, my curls have been more defined, and my hair just feels healthier overall.
